ABOUT THE ARTIST
Christian Dell
Born in 1893, he passed away in 1974 (Germany)
Christian Dell started his journey as an apprentice silversmith in various workshops and emerged as a pivotal figure in the evolution of the functional and minimalist aesthetic connected to the Bauhaus movement. He was the head of the metalworking division at the design academy, teaching principles of functional and minimalistic design to aspiring designers. While he is most renowned for his Kaiser Idell series, his portfolio also encompassed lamps, jewelry, and metal artworks that seamlessly fused utility with artistic creativity. In the later years of his career, he delved into innovations in the early development of plastic technologies.
The renowned KAISER idell lamp stands as a tribute to Christian Dell's ability to combine simple geometric shapes such as spheres, circles, and cylinders with attractive design elements that signify modernity. Nowadays, the KAISER idell is recognized as an outstanding example of Bauhaus design, praised for its careful material selection and superb craftsmanship.
